After having our post added to Life Church’s okcleaders.com website, I have received several emails from people wanting to help.  So I want to take just a moment first to say Thank You!  Thank you to all the people who are stepping up and loving with their actions.  The things you give are more than things, they show that people care.  That the church can be the church.  Hope!

So with that said, I have been asked, “what is still needed?”  So I will attempt to list everything that I can think of that has not been solidly claimed.  If you or a group that you are involved with wants to take on any of these things just let me know by email and I will take it off the list.

dressers (3)
little girl bedding (for a twin)
little boy bedding (for a twin)
Queen sized bedding (for a single man)
kitchen table with chairs
coffee table/end tables for the living room
towels

I will also be accepting gift cards for this family so that they can shop for  their own clothing.  The little girl is 7 and the little boy is 5 and they may be forming their own taste in clothing.  So I would like to give them the opportunity to pick out some of their clothes.

If you have items that you would like to give that are not on this list, we would probably be able to use them for some of the other families that we are serving.  At any one time Hope Chest OKC is serving from 6-8 families.  What you have to offer may be just what a family in our city needs!

We have had some living room furniture donated, but we are still in need of bedroom furniture for Dad and his two children.  Sheets and bedding would also be of great help.

We are also serving several other families right now.  If you would like to help by delivering furniture or in any other capasity that we may not have thought of, please contact Cissa at cissa@hopechestokc.org

Monday morning I got an email telling me about a Dad in our city who lost everything but a couple of sets of clothes in a house fire this weekend.  The email asked what our church could do to help.  Could Hope Chest help?  Well, yes, Hope Chest can help.  But this is not just about the church that I go to, but the Church (all believers) being the church.  This dad has two children, ages 5 and 7, and he is trusting that God will take care of this.

Hope Chest has provided dishes, pots and pans and silverware, some pillows, a few towels, a couple of blankets, a lamp, a few toys and a small amount of clothing.  He needs everything else.

I also just found out today that his biggest expense will be a central heat and air unit that he will need to install in the new home he is acquiring.  There is only a single gas heating unit in one room, and that is not enough to keep his kids warm this winter.

Acts 2:44-45 says: And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.

We are called to be the church to those in need.  Will you answer that call?
